Philco's ad renders the Navy's new Sidewinder air-to-air missile as a rattlesnake coiled around the globe — a fitting image, since the missile was named for the desert snake and, per the ad, proved just as "vicious" in flight tests at China Lake. Philco assisted the Naval Ordnance Test Station in developing Sidewinder and had moved the missile into full production by this point.
