Boeing's YC-14 was its bid for the Air Force's AMST short-takeoff transport competition — designed to haul the Army's heaviest combat vehicles, including 120,000-pound battle tanks, into forward battle areas. After a year of strenuous Air Force flight testing, this ad argues the YC-14's advanced STOL technology was proven and affordable; the contract ultimately went nowhere, but the engineering later shaped the C-17.
